I specialise in the difficulties facing women today. I believe women are heavily relied upon to keep everything together for those in their lives be it partners, families, or bosses. Sometimes this reliance can become too much and generally make them feel like they are treading water and getting nowhere, or even that they are losing their struggle and sinking.
I offer a space where women feel safe and encouraged to share their feelings, and know they will not be judged - a place where they know they are respected and feel comfortable working with me so they ultimately make their own decision on the best way forward.
Issues such as relationship and family breakdowns, domestic violence, financial hardship, community and social isolation and unemployment are just some of the everyday issues that can have a major effect on people’s lives.
Living with domestic violence has a profound and lasting effect on partners, young people and children. For some it is an existence of constantly 'living on the edge'. Some try to stay in the hope that the violence will stop, and the family will remain together. Unfortunately, this is not often a reality.
There are many support services available by phone, e.g. DV Connect 1800RESPECT, Lifeline 131114. With the added help of someone who will listen and provide support, you can be guided through this difficult situation to a place of safety.
I encourage any woman who may be experiencing the pain of any of these issues, to come in and talk with me, and we will work together to find an alternative solution. You deserve to have the best life has to offer, and counselling may be the pathway towards your ultimate success.
Counselling can involve different strategies from careful observation of client behaviour in behavioural treatments through to talking therapies.
Somatic Stress Relief
This form of therapy involves the release of residual internalised tension from past difficult experiences. This tension held in the body can exert pressure on us without us knowing and can contribute to the unpleasant physical and emotional symptoms we may experience.
Body based cognitive therapies which include EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), mindfulness techniques, relaxation strategies etc. aid in the release and the emotional resolution of grief, trauma, and aggression for children, adolescents, and adults.
There are many forms these therapies - including Deep Breathing , Laughter Therapy, BSFF (Be Set Free Fast), Hakomi, and HAMR (Hand Actuated Mental Reconditioning) to name a few. Any of these therapies may be appropriate to assist a person both identify and clear areas in the body causing them distress. We can also support people to utilise techniques safely at home to reduce stress or feelings of sadness. The more practise and conditioning the body/brain connection receives in changing from a negative to a positive and relaxed state the more easily someone can achieve a permanent feeling of happiness, calm and wellbeing and meet the challenges with optimism.
